SpellChain is a Action Roguelite RPG featuring a unique spell-crafting system that lets you unleash your creativity allowing over 500+ spell combinations. Loot up, Destroy your enemies, Craft some spells and reach The King so you can have a stern word with him!
This Demo contains around 20 minutes of Gameplay showcasing a handful of levels, spells and gear. I created this Demo for receiving feedback on what can be improved before a full Steam launch.
In your Spellbook you equip spells & effects in any combination you want. Then, using Q, E, and R you activate a spell and add up to 3 effects. A fireball is cool but a fireball that causes a meteorite shower that freezes enemies in a block of ice while shooting out lightning bolts is even cooler.
A full Steam release within 2025 is the goal for SpellChain. As well as quality of life improvements the following requires completion for this to happen:
- More Maps - The maps tell the loose "story" of SC, progressing toward a dinner date with the King.
- Additional Spells & Effects
- Audio Additions & Improvements
- Increased Enemy variety
- More Loot!

The only bug I found was, that if you press tab, The Unity uI navigation selects a button on the screen, then if you press space, it counts as clicking that Ui button.
I was able to open my inventory with space, because I pressed tab to close the inventory, which selected the Inventory button as active, and then when pressing space it would count as me clicking that button.
You can disable Ui navigation in the Button component, I think this is for controller support, idk though, I had a similar problem with my game, which is slightly similar to yours :))) So I love elemental games.

It is very fun to defeat a large number of enemies with flashy magic, magic that can be strengthened by changing the combination by yourself!
This is one of the most enjoyable magic combat games!
On the other hand, I feel that the controls are too difficult.
I played for about 40 minutes, but I could not get used to the magic controls until the end, and I was fighting while looking at the combination part in the lower right corner all the time during the battle. (I rewatched the video later and it was exhilarating and awesome...)
Maybe my brain is just at the level of a pussycat, but I would like to see an option to make something easier to operate, meow~!

Just uploaded a new version. Its now much easier to control and cast spells, I also added Japanese for you :)
This Game is so much fun! you can clearly tell how much love and effort the Developer has put into just for the fun of it.
The Spell combinations are impactful and incredibly creative. I spent hours just using spells in all sorts of different ways with different modifiers and the results and effects were insane! Some of the spell combos in here are so unique I never would have thought of those!
The enemy AI is diverse with multiple enemy types that keep combat entertaining and challenging enough that I can't just blast them with the same spells all the time.
The progression of the game for its current state is actually super impressive and doesn't feel too grindy or easy.
I would highly recommend playing this for some engaging spell bashing fun!
